rue21 and Forever 21 are not the same stores

Though the names of the stores are similar, there is no affiliation between the two. Both stores are owned by completely separate companies. rue21 was founded in 1970 as Pennsylvania Fashions Inc. It rebranded to rue21 after the first filing for bankruptcy in 2003.

UPDATED: May 2, 2024 at 8:15 p.m. Clothing company Rue21 has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the third time in 21 years and reportedly plans to close its 540 stores, including 10 locations in New York State.
