3 Options To Choose From
There are currently three factions in Gray Zone Warfare: Lamang Recovery Initiative, Crimson Shield International, and Mithras Security Systems. Each different PMC has a vastly different background that may sway your decision. Mithras is a self-run PMC inspired by the Roman Legion system that equally divides up loot based on performance.
Lamang is funded by a tech tycoon that describes itself as an altruistic organization picking up the pieces of the devastated island Gray Zone Warfare takes place on. Crimson Shield, meanwhile, is a more reckless organization that attracts both military and non-military personnel.
As of the May 2nd patch, you are allowed to switch factions. This comes at a steep cost, as you will lose all progress and items on your character for this fresh start.
The faction that you pick will ultimately decide two things. First, it limits the players you can join in squads. If you pick Mithras and your friends decide on Lamang, you cannot play together in a group unless someone switches sides. Second, your base camp will be different based on your faction. All base camps are found near the island's outskirts, so no faction has any advantageous start.
Which Faction Should You Pick In Gray Zone Warfare
The Best Well-Rounded Faction
No faction in Gray Zone Warfare has any real leg up over the other two. Although your starting point differs, each faction has access to the same gear, missions, and map. Unlike multiplayer in Escape From Tarkov, if you plan to play with friends, I would ensure that you all join the same faction to play together. You can still meet up with other players on opposing factions, but you cannot complete any PvE missions together.
Mithras Security Systems is a better faction to pick. Unlike Lamang and Crimson Shield, Mithras tends to be slightly more well-rounded lore-wise than its competitors. All PMCs in Gray Zone Warfare are morally dubious from the start, so this certainly doesn’t have to play a factor in your decision. The map is constantly changing, with factions claiming different territories, so you might ultimately want to switch to the side with most land or players at any given time.
