Stay upright until your food has had time to settle in your stomach.Take a walk. Walking can help stimulate your digestive system and help your blood sugar levels even out. Avoid strenuous exercise, however, since this can cause blood flow to your legs or arms instead of to your gut.
If your transit time is a concern, there are some steps you can take to speed things up. Exercise for 30 minutes a day. Food and digested material is moved through the body by a series of muscle contractions. These muscle contractions are called peristalsis.
Water: In addition to its importance for digestion, research indicates warm water may aid gut bacteria. Herbal and spiced teas: This includes peppermint tea, turmeric tea, ginger tea, and fennel tea. The herbs and spices in the tea can reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms of digestive distress.
Metoclopramide: This medicine increases the movements in your digestive system, helping the food to pass through more quickly and efficiently. This is the only medication in the United States that is FDA approved to treat gastroparesis. However, in some patients it may cause movement disorders.
Staying in an upright position (rather than lying down) can help support faster and better digestion after a large meal. Waiting 30 minutes and then going for a walk can also help.

The main culprits for slow and irregular digestion are processed food with a high salt and sugar content, fatty/fired food, dairy products, too much meat, spicy food, and caffeine.
Home remedies include increasing your fiber intake or taking a laxative, using a suppository, or taking a stool softener. Trying out a squat position, doing light exercise, or performing a colonic massage may also help. A doctor can check for other conditions affecting constipation and prescribe medication to help.
