Versed Skincare Review: Does Vegan Skincare Work? (10)

Versed Skincare is both affordable and well-branded, which isn’t a common combination in our experience. The brand describes its product line as “Vegan, Cruelty-Free and Clean Skincare.”

But does Versed use research-backed ingredients in their formulations, or are these just marketing claims? Does the brand use any questionable additive ingredients? What retailer sells Versed for the best price? And how do real users rate and describe the aesthetic effects of Versed Skincare?

In this article we’ll answer all of these questions and more as we analyze the ingredients in one of Versed’s most popular products (Dew Point) based on medical studies to give our take on whether it’s likely to be effective in improving skin quality or if it’s a waste of money.

We’ll provide a cost breakdown to show what retailer sells Versed for the best price, and feature unsponsored customer reviews of the brand.

Ingredient Analysis – Dew Point

Versed Skincare Review: Does Vegan Skincare Work? (11)

The ingredients in Dew Point, which is the daily facial cream sold by Versed, are shown above.

This cream contains a number of research-backed ingredients.

Aloe barbadensis leaf juice, better known as aloe vera, was shown in a 2009 medical review to have skin-healing properties.

Camellia sinensis leaf extract, otherwise known as tea leaf extract, is a potent natural moisturizer, as we discussed in our Proven Skincare review.

Jojoba and glycerin may have synergistic effects, which means they can be more effective when combined than in isolation.

A clinical trial published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that these two ingredients improve skin moisture content.

Sodium hyaluronate is a well-studied anti-aging ingredient. It’s the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, which is clinically shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Due to its lower molecular weight, sodium hyaluronate can penetrate deeper into the skin.

While this cream has a number of research-backed ingredients, it contains two ingredients that may be questionable from a health and experience perspective.

Sodium hydroxide is a preservative that may be irritating to the skin, according to a 1990 clinical trial.

Phenoxyethanol is another preservative that was shown to be toxic to human cells in a clinical trial published in the Experimental Eye Research journal.

Overall, we consider Versed Drew Point likely to be an effective moisturizer, however we don’t currently recommend this product due to the two preservatives highlighted above.

But how do real users rate and describe the effects of Versed Skincare? We’ll feature some unsponsored user reviews in the next section.

Real Customers Review Versed

Amazon is a better resource for honest customer reviews than a brand’s website in our opinion.

Versed Dew Point (the daily facial cream we reviewed in the Ingredient Analysis section) has over 1,400 Amazon reviews and an average review rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars.

The top positive review from a verified purchaser is written by a user named “Lindsay Prior” who gave the product 5/5 stars and liked its moisturizing effects and fragrance-free nature:

“A friend recommended this to me and so glad she did…A few things I started using was making my skin SO dry. It was terrible. Start using this and it clears up in a couple days. No scent, soaks in quickly and doesn't make me feel greasy or sticky. I love this product.”

The top negative review from a verified purchaser comes from a user named “Cathy” who gives the product a 1/5 star rating and claims it caused side effects:

“I was excited to try a new vegan moisturizer, presuming it would be great for my sensitive skin. However, I used this product one night and it made my skin super red and itchy. Not sure what chemical I am reacting to, but those with sensitive skin should be wary before purchasing this. Requesting a refund!”

The average review rating on Facebook is currently 3.4 out of 5 stars.

Pros and Cons of Versed

Here are the pros and cons of Versed Skincare in our opinion:

Pros:

  • Many effective natural ingredients
  • Moisturizer should be effective
  • Fragrance-free
  • Affordable
  • Clean and aesthetic packaging
  • Mostly positive online customer reviews

Cons:

  • Uses phenoxyethanol
  • Uses sodium hydroxide

Conclusion

We consider Versed Skincare to be a good brand for its price point.

We reviewed the formulation of the brand’s daily facial cream called Dew Point and we don’t currently recommend it due to the inclusion of two preservative ingredients, but we do consider it likely to be effective as a skin moisturizer.

Versed is affordable, and may be cheaper on Amazon or the brand’s website when factoring in shipping fees, so we recommend checking both platforms prior to making a purchase.

Most of the online customer reviews on Versed that we came across while researching this article were positive.

Versed highlights the fact that their products are vegan in their marketing, but the vast majority of skincare products that we’ve reviewed on Illuminate Health to date are vegan. It’s somewhat uncommon to include animal products in cosmetic formulations.
