I’ve always had a contentious relationship with gel-creams.As an oily, yet sensitive-skinned guy, I reach for them because of their comfortable-wearing texture and ability to plump while hydrating. But hours later, as layer of shine has accumulated on my cheeks, I remember gel creams can sometimes prove to be a little too heavy for my complexion. Of course, no two gel-creams are made the same, and I’ve tried a few that strike a balance when it comes to texture and hydration in a way that made my skin feel great.

What first attracted me to Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel-Cream was the impressive list of ingredients that let me know that it was capable of way more than just hydration. Ranking right at the top of the ingredients list is aloe, glycerin, squalane, green tea extract—stuff my skin loves and has various humectant, hydrating, and antioxidant properties. However, despite all that, the true test was how it acted once it hit my skin. Keep reading to get my honest review of Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel Cream and why you might consider adding it to your skincare routine.

About My Skin: Oily and sensitive

My two biggest concerns are controlling oil and staving off the aging process. To that end, I’m a fan of retinol at night and vitamin C during the day, and I believe I’ve found the core holy grail routine for me; however, when it comes to steps like moisturizer and cleanser, I can be flexible and like to try new things. I need to be careful that whatever I try doesn't irritate my already sensitive skin, so I seek out lightweight moisturizers that skip certain active ingredients, but contain humectants to keep my skin’s barrier function in check.

The Feel: Like a gel, and then some

The first thing that drew me to the texture of Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel-Cream is how it feels as you apply it. It goes on like a gel, jelly-like and fresh, but as you rub it in you can feel that it's definitely more emollient than a typical gel. It gives you a chance to be a bit "massage-y" with your application, which is always good for skin, and sinks in nicely with no stickiness afterwards. If you’re someone who likes to add occasional boosters to your daily moisturizer, this gel-cream would lend itself very nicely to both serum and powder formulations.

The Ingredients: Well above basic

This product's ingredients list is nothing short of a treat for your skin.

Glycerin: Glycerin is a humectant, which means it attracts water to the skin and helps to retain it for increased hydration levels—hence its position as the second ingredient just after water. Its lightweight texture makes it ideal for all skin types—especially those on the oily side.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: The all-season skin soother, aloe contains a hefty co*cktail of vitamins A, C, D, and E, amino acids, polysaccharides and phytosterols that help it calm and hydrate skin. Who doesn’t need a bit of that in their everyday moisturizer?

Green Tea Extract: Green tea is the business for healthy skin. As an antioxidant, it contains ultra-potent compounds called polyphenols that help prevent free-radical damage that could result from pollution, plus the presence of caffeine and tannins can help shrink blood vessels, reducing puffiness. Overall, green tea can help both protect and correct the condition of your skin, making it an ingredient your skin should love.

Jojoba Oil: The inclusion of jojoba oil is what makes this gel-cream on the money, as it’s equally beneficial for both dry and oily skins—it hydrates the former and helps balance sebum for the latter.

The Results: Plump skin with a touch of sheen

Just like the packaging promises, Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel Cream keeps the “bounce” in your skin, which is the best way I could describe how my skin felt. Plump, very hydrated, and super supple. If you could zoom in under a microscope my skin would appear like a giant bouncy castle. It wears well under SPF and, although I did notice a bit of shine by the end of the day, it was nothing to complain about.

The Value: Absolutely worth it

In my opinion, Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel Cream ticks all the boxes of what a great moisturizer should be: high-quality formula, ingredients that benefit all skin types, a texture that benefits all skin types, and a price tag that gives you plenty of juice for under $20. It’s a well-above-basic moisturizer that feels as great as it works.

Similar Products: You have options

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream: If you’re super oily and still craving the extra TLC of a gel-cream but want to avoid any kind of oil altogether, this lightweight gel-cream by Neutrogena ($26) is stacked with hyaluronic acid to deliver deep hydration and quench skin with long lasting moisture.

Acure Ultra Hydrating Facial Gel Cream: Another categorical favorite, this nourishing gel cream by Acure ($19.99) contains a shopping list of natural extracts including watermelon seed and lentil extract, plus hyaluronic acid and panthenol to help hydrate and calm skin.

Final Verdict

I started this review of Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel-Cream saying how I wasn’t much of a fan of gel-creams, but if you haven’t already guessed by this point, I can at least count one as a favorite. From its cool, refreshing texture to its lineup of potent ingredients that I swear I can feel working on my skin, I strongly recommend anyone in search of healthy hydration scoop up some Versed ASAP.
