What is the meaning of national recognition? ›

National Recognition means approval of a Program that has met the standards of a Specialized Professional Association that is a constituent member of CAEP.

The College Board National Recognition Programs award academic honors to high-performing, underrepresented students.

Must have a GPA of B+ (equal to at least 3.3 or 87%-89%) or higher at the time they are submitting. Weighted and unweighted GPAs are considered. Must have a permanent address in the United States, a U.S. territory or U.S. military base, or attend a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) school.

They alone will not significantly boost your chances of getting into a top-tier college, but they can contribute positively to your overall profile, especially when viewed alongside a strong GPA, challenging coursework, and impressive extracurricular activities.

Per national policies, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence, or higher, as determined by their local chapter. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a cumulative GPA above the national minimum.)

Qualification for recognition is based on the student's combined verbal, math, and writing skill scores on the PSAT/NMSQT taken in the student's junior year of high school. PSAT score cut-offs vary each year by state, but typically range in the high 180s and low 190s.
