This foaming Celtic sea salt scrub recipe contains light grey Celtic sea salt which is naturally dried by the sun and the wind and contains 82 trace minerals. Its light grey hue comes from the pure clay soil the salt is harvested from and, like Dead Sea salt, Celtic sea salt is also naturally moist. When used in skin care applications, Celtic sea salthelps to keep skin moisturized and revitalized. In addition it also aids inimproving the skin barrier function and helps to eliminate roughness and inflammation on the skin’s surface.
Like Epsom salt, which is rich in magnesium, Celtic sea salt also offersanti-inflammatory benefits due to its ownhigh magnesium content. This in turn can help those with muscle and joint pain. Italsohelps toflush out toxins to detoxify skinand aidsin improving blood circulation. To add further detoxifying skin care properties to this Celtic sea salt scrub, you can also experiment with adding natural clay or activated charcoal to your foaming Celtic sea salt scrub recipe.
My foaming Celtic sea salt scrub recipe, like my foaming salt scrub recipe here,also includes a glycerin melt and pour soap base. This in turns gives this Celtic sea salt scrub some soap like properties. As a result this scrub will lather lightly when massaged onto skin allowing you to skip that bar of soap or bottle of body wash. I also include a blend of essential oils and neem oil prized for their healing and anti-bacterial/anti-fungal properties.These ingredients make this Celtic sea salt scrub a wonderful optionfor problem skin as well as feet!

Ingredients:
5 oz. clear glycerin melt and pour soap base
.5 oz mango butter
1 oz. grapeseed oil
.5 oz. neem oil
10 oz. coarse grey Celtic sea salt
2 mL rosemary essential oil
2 mL lavender essential oil
1 mL tea tree essential oil
pinch chromium green oxide pigment powder, optional
Instructions:
Note that this foaming Celtic sea salt scrub recipe has not been tested using an all natural melt and pour soap base and may not perform as desired if used. ie. You could end up with a scrub that’s more like a solid rock hard bar of soap. I specifically used Crafter’s Choice basic clear melt and pour soap base. It’s also advised you not use metal utensils for this project when mixing in the Celtic sea salt.
Begin by using a digital scale to weigh out the mango butter into a 4 cup glass Pyrex measuring cup. (Alternately you may use a double boiler.) Heat in the microwave at 50% power until mostly melted. Remove from the microwave.
Weigh out the clear glycerin melt and pour soap base and cut into cubes using a Chef’s knife. Add the soap cubes to the glass Pyrex measuring cup with the mango butter. Heat in 20-30 second increments, stirring in between each heating, until the soapand mango butter melt completely.
Now weigh out the grape seed oil – or other liquid at room temperature carrier oil of choice – and the neem oil and stir into the melted soap/mango butter mixture. (Learn more about neem oil here.)
Using a fresh graduated plastic transfer pipette for each essential oil, measure out and stir in the tea tree, lavender and rosemary essential oils.
In a separate glass container or bowl, weigh out the grey Celtic sea salt. I used coarsesalt for my foaming Celtic sea salt scrub, however you can also use fine Celtic sea salt if your skin is irritated by the coarser grains. (I found grey Celtic sea salt at my local co-op, however, it can also be purchased online.)
If using a colorant, add a pinch of the chromium green oxide powder to the Celtic sea salt and mix in using a wood or plastic utensil. (Alternately, you can try a natural colorant such as spirulina powder.)
Now slowly add the Celtic sea salt into the other ingredients, mixing as you go. Once thoroughly combined, spoon into three 4 oz. glass jars. Or double my foaming Celtic sea salt recipe to make three 8 oz. jars. I used a 8 oz. wide mouth mason jar and a 4 oz. mason jelly jar for mine.
