Carbamide peroxide & hydrogen peroxide

All professional grade teeth whitening products contain hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which is the bleaching (or stain removing) agent.

Hydrogen peroxide breaks down faster than carbamide peroxide, which means it releases most of its bleaching power within 30–60 minutes. Conversely, carbamide peroxide releases about 50% of its whitening power in the first two hours and can remain active for up to six additional hours./p>

Hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide produced equally brilliant results. Howeverthere is a noticeable difference in sensitivity when using a hydrogen peroxide compared to carbamide peroxide product.

Hydrogen peroxide should only be used in a controlled environment under dental supervision due to extreme gum irritation and hyper tooth sensitivity. Carbamide peroxide can be used at home without dental supervision; however it’s recommended consulting with the dentist first.

Difference between gel concentrations

The concentration is the percentage of the gel that is composed of the tooth whitening agent (HP or CP). The gel concentration can range from as little as 6% to as much as 44% (HP or CP); however no more than 22% carbamide peroxide is recommended for at home use.

No matter the gel concentration, all stains will be removed over time.

Gel shelf life

Smile Brilliant’s gel is made fresh! Our gel is never more than 6 weeks old because we order just enough to last us for 6 weeks. Our gel has a shelf life of 1 year at room temperature or 2 years when refrigerated.

Our gel is actually better than any other competitor’s!

As noted earlier, the active bleaching agent in teeth whitening gel is carbamide peroxide which breaks down into water when exposed to light. Have you ever noticed that when you buy hydrogen peroxide at the drugstore that it comes in a brown bottle? This is done to prevent break down. We challenge you to find another brand of teeth whitening gel that is sealed in light proof packaging! Smile Brilliant is literally the only brand and we do not know why! Our gel ingredients are literally the same as that found in every other brand but what makes ours better is the packaging ensures it’s fresh and effective.
