How to Make Our Caprese Skewers Recipe

This recipe will come together in 4 easy steps. Simply make the glaze, assemble the skewers, drizzle, and enjoy!

Heat the balsamic vinegar for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Combine olive oil, Italian seasoning, garlic and onion powder, salt and pepper.
Pro-tip: When heating your balsamic vinegar (if you choose to make your own glaze) it will begin to have more of a glaze texture. This is what you want! Don’t fret if the volume of liquid has reduced, that’s normal. You should be able to dip a spoon into the glaze, run your finger through the glaze along the back of a spoon and see a solid line.
Assemble to skewers alternating between tomato, mozzarella, and basil.

Variations / Options / Add-ins

  • BALSAMIC VINEGAR: You also have the option of buying a premade balsamic glaze.
  • GARLIC POWDER: Switch this out for a ½ teaspoon of minced garlic if you enjoy fresh garlic.
  • GRAPE TOMATOES:You can get different colors and types of small tomatoes here. Cherry and grape tomatoes work great for these skewers.
  • MOZZARELLA: The mozzarella pearls work great for this recipe, but if you can’t find them at your grocery store, you could also use fresh mozzarella and cut it into small pieces for the skewers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store these Caprese Skewers?

If you are going to store these or make ahead, make sure you store the skewer separately from the glaze and olive oil mixture. If stored in an airtight container, all of these things will last 2-3 days in the refrigerator. Just apply the olive oil and balsamic glaze right before serving.

What can I add to these skewers?

These are a simple, fresh appetizer, but you can make them more filling by adding some things. Try adding some avocado, artichoke hearts, olives, or slices of italian sausage. These will add some extra taste, but are still in the family of flavors for the original “caprese.” And although the caprese dishes are the classic colors of the Italian flag, I always recommend adding to and changing up a recipe to make it your own.

What is the difference between grape and cherry tomatoes?

The two types of tomatoes are pretty much interchangeable, but cherry tomatoes are larger, sweeter, and quite watery. Grape tomatoes are half the size of cherry tomatoes. They are firmer, meatier, have thicker skins, and last longer.
